🚨 What belongs in a basic apartment emergency kit?
Power outage, severe weather or an unexpected emergency — would you have what you need if you had to stay put for a while?
Here are some basics worth keeping on hand:
💧 Water — enough for several days
🥫 Nonperishable food — plus a manual can opener
🔦 Flashlights — skip the candles during a power outage
🔋 Extra batteries
📱 Portable phone charger/power bank — keep it charged!
🩹 First-aid kit
💊 Essential medications
📻 Battery-powered or hand-crank radio
🧻 Basic hygiene supplies
🐾 Pet food, water & medications — don't forget your four-legged family members
📄 Copies of important information — emergency contacts, insurance information and identification
💵 A small amount of cash — card readers and ATMs may not work during an outage
🧥 Blankets or warm clothing
Apartment tip: Keep everything together in an easy-to-grab bin, backpack or tote so you don't have to search for supplies when you need them.
And don't just build it and forget it! Check your kit periodically for expired food, medications and dead batteries.
What’s one thing you’d add to the list?
