UPDATE: Sept. 29 | 9:45 a.m.
City crews continue storm cleanup throughout Treasure Island. Power remains out across the island, and potable water is still restricted as Pinellas County works to fix system breaks. The National Guard and strike teams from various parts of the state and country are assisting Treasure Island staff, Police, and Fire Rescue.
Resident and Business Return Access: Residents and businesses have been permitted to return to assess damage and begin cleanup. Currently, ONLY residents and businesses are allowed back. Contractors will be permitted once the city announces their access.
Transportation Assistance: To assist those leaving the island who don’t need medical attention, a bus is making rounds off the island via Treasure Island Causeway. Stops are at:
• 7/11 (9695 Gulf Blvd.)
• Roselli Park (12299 Capri Circle South)
• Treasure Island Park and Community Center (One Park Place)
The bus will drop off at Park Street and Central Avenue in St. Petersburg. PSTA will transfer people to the Ross Norton Recreation Center shelter in Clearwater.
Access and Beach Closures:
• Sunset Beach: Accessible by foot only. No residential vehicle traffic allowed.
• Beaches: Closed due to hazardous debris.
Water and Cooling Resources:
• Water Distribution: Pallets of water are available for residents at City Hall (10451 Gulf Blvd.).
• Cooling and Comfort Station: A cooling station will soon open at Treasure Island Community Park and Community Center, offering places to cool down, shower, and charge devices. Additional stations will open as resources arrive.
Safety Reminders:
• Use generators in well-ventilated areas outside, away from doors and windows.
• Document all damage with photos, including the height of floodwater inside the house.
• File insurance claims promptly. For details, visit pinellas.gov/flood-insurance.
• Avoid downed power lines and report them to the power company.
• Treat non-functioning traffic lights as four-way stops.
• Only use 9-1-1 for life-threatening emergencies, not for reporting damage or power outages.
Help Spread the Word: We know not everyone may see these updates. Please share this information, and city staff will also be distributing flyers to ensure all residents are informed.
