Apparently I came into contact with poison ivy sometime in the last few days, and now I’ve developed a rash from it.

To help others identify it, here’s a graphic showing the difference between poison ivy and Virginia creeper. They can look very similar at first glance, but only one contains the oil that causes an allergic reaction.

Unfortunately, I’m severely allergic to poison ivy, so the only safe way for me to deal with it is by treating it with an herbicide labeled to control poison ivy. Hand-pulling is simply not an option for me.

One important thing to remember: even after a poison ivy plant dies, the urushiol oil that causes the rash can remain active for years on vines, roots, tools, clothing, and other surfaces.

If you think you’ve come into contact with poison ivy, wash your skin, clothing, gloves, and tools as soon as possible. A little caution now can save you from a lot of itching later.

We definitely need a lot of good rain! 🌧️

We’ve been stuck in a pretty bad drought for a while now, and we’re really hoping and praying we get some steady rain SOON.

Until then, we recommend giving your lawn a well-deserved drink. You don’t have to completely soak it — just set up a sprinkler and let it run for about 15–20 minutes a few times throughout the week. That can make a big difference while we wait this drought out.

One easy way to measure how much water your lawn is getting is the “tuna can test.” Set out an empty, clean tuna can in an area your sprinkler reaches. Once the can fills up, your lawn has received more than enough water for the week.

It’s also better to spread watering sessions out over several days rather than dumping a ton of water all at once. Slow, consistent watering helps your lawn absorb moisture much more effectively.
