Happy National Kitten Day!
A day dedicated to raising awareness of homeless kitty's and promoting adoption. We celebrate the cutest whiskered wanderers that has been apart of ORC life from the begining. ORCAT is Ocean Reefโs Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) program for cats. Before the TNR began in the 1990s, thousands of cats overran the Ocean Reef community as the result of a rat-control program. While the rat population began to disappear, the cats became the new nuisance to property owners. In an attempt to control the feral feline population, the community formed a spay and neuter clinic in 1995. The small clinic was successful from the beginning, as hundreds of cats were trapped and fixed. Around 1998, the number of kittens born dropped dramatically, along with complaints from homeowners. The ORCAT population is currently around 200. Every day, staff and volunteers visit over 70 feeding stations to care for all free-roaming felines. Cats who cannot return to the wild reside at the Grayvik Center, where they receive love, food, and veterinary care until finding their fur-ever home.
Swipe all the way to the end to get a sneak peek of the new Grayvik Animal Center currently being built for our cute kitty's, with loads more space and exceptional veterinary care for all of our family pets on the Reef.
ORCAT is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable Trap-Neuter-Release organization supported solely by donations and fundraising events.
