We’ve been keeping you updated on the effort to bring commercial airline service back to , and there’s a new development that definitely has our attention.

✈️ is now officially part of the conversation.

has been talking with American Airlines about the possibility of bringing scheduled passenger service back to — with flights connecting Marathon to .

And this isn't just somebody throwing an idea out there.

American Airlines actually provided a letter of support that Monroe County included with its application for federal funding to help bring commercial airline service back to Marathon.

Now, before everybody starts packing their bags... 😂

👉 American Airlines has NOT announced that it is coming to Marathon.

But the fact that American is talking with the county and provided a letter supporting the effort certainly makes this a little more interesting.

American has indicated that connecting Marathon with its huge hub could fit well within its network. From Miami, travelers can connect to destinations all over the country and around the world.

And for those of us who live here, just imagine this for a minute...

Instead of getting up early, loading the car and making that long drive up the Overseas Highway to catch a flight in Miami, you could potentially start your trip right here in the . 🌴✈️

Monroe County is still working on funding and the airport improvements needed to make commercial passenger service possible, so there are definitely more steps ahead.

But after going without regularly scheduled commercial passenger flights since 2009, seeing a major airline like involved in the conversation feels like another encouraging step forward.

We’ll keep watching this one and keep everyone updated as we learn more. 👀✈️

What a wonderful evening at DiGiorgio's Cafe Largo for Lobsterfest 🦞 it was a w**e pairing like no other 🍷 From the lobster mac&cheese balls to the lobster risotto to the lobster shaped dessert, I can’t say what was my favorite ❤️ Ok my favorite was the people at the table sharing this special evening! We met some new friends and had a fun evening. See you at the next one!

I got to try out the new Pilates class offered at the Ocean Spa in Playa Largo Resort. Will I go again? YES 🙌 I will, the instructors were very thorough on technique and made sure we were all doing the proper movements. You can also use the spa before or after your workout, take a steam, go have lunch. I also had a mini facial. You do not have to be staying at the resort to take the classes. Or to book a treatment at the spa.

The Sunshine State’s $1.8 trillion economy is now ranked No. 14 globally, according to new data from the Florida Chamber of Commerce. After 6.3% growth over the past year, Florida has passed Australia and Mexico. It sits just behind South Korea and would need about 2% more growth to overtake it — or roughly 21% to crack the top 10 ahead of Canada.

Chamber President and CEO Mark Wilson puts it plainly: lower taxes, streamlined regulations, and free enterprise are the formula. “The best way to help America move forward is to have Florida lead the country forward when it comes to free enterprise and freedom. If we would follow Florida’s lead, everyone wins.”

While daily population inflows have settled at 500–600 people, the wealth migration remains blistering — more than $4 million every hour. Florida leads the nation in new business startups and manufacturing job growth, with strong momentum in aerospace, defense, fintech, healthcare, logistics, and Central Florida’s $11.6 billion modeling-and-simulation sector.

Wilson credits a 20-year, coordinated push from the governor’s office, the legislature, and the business community. Florida also carries the lowest state debt per capita in America — under $1,000 per resident — compared with more than $6,500 in New York.

The contrast with high-tax, high-regulation states is sharp. Wilson calls places like New York, Illinois, New Jersey, Minnesota, and California “death spiral” states that keep raising taxes and driving people, businesses, and capital out. Meanwhile, Florida keeps attracting both.

The chamber’s Florida 2030 Blueprint aims to push the state into the world’s top 10 economies by the end of the decade, focusing on life sciences, defense, ag-tech, commercial space, logistics, and cybersecurity.

Florida isn’t just competing with other states anymore. It’s competing with entire countries and winning.

✈️ Commercial Flights Could Be Coming Back to Marathon 🌴

Commercial flights may be one step closer to returning to Marathon Airport. Monroe County is laying the groundwork to bring scheduled airline service back to the Middle Keys for the first time since 2009.

✈️ The county has applied for a federal grant to help bring an airline to Marathon. At the same time, local hotels, businesses and tourism groups have put together more than $1.5 million to help make it happen.

💰 County commissioners have also agreed to waive landing fees and terminal rent for the first two years for whichever airline signs on.

🛫 Right now, the airport's consultant says the best options would be flights to Miami, Atlanta or Washington Dulles. Those airports would give travelers in the Middle Keys easy connections to cities all over the country.

🚧 Before any flights can start, the airport still needs TSA screening, baggage handling and a few other security upgrades.

🏗️ A lot of the heavy lifting has already been done. Over the past few years, Marathon Airport has rebuilt its runway, upgraded the terminal, added a new jet fuel facility and completed millions of dollars in improvements to prepare for future growth.

📅 No airline has officially committed yet, but if everything comes together, commercial airline service could begin as early as late 2027.
