:
About 18,000 years ago, when continental glaciers trapped much of the world's ocean water, sea levels were almost 400 feet lower than they are today. North Carolina's coastline was 50 to 75 miles east of its present-day location. And the principle rivers of the region (the Neuse, the Tar, the Currituck, and the Chowan) flowed across the continental shelf and cascaded over its front slope into the Atlantic Ocean.
When the sinking sea reached its lowest level and winds began carrying sediment from the west, a high ridge of sand dunes formed on the easternmost edge of the mainland. Glaciers began to melt. The sea level began to rise. And the land's vast forests and marshes began a slow retreat away from the rising waters. In their wake, they left huge river deltas rich in materials. Those materials ultimately formed the Outer Banks. -From "The Insiders' Guide to the Outer Banks, 18th edition." Mary Ellen Riddle and Catherine Kozak.

Stay safe guys!

Well, the shade sails are coming down for Dorian. But we are planning on opening. I would like to say Thursday, but it all depends on what does or doesn’t arrive. We want to be open and have plans to run our regular hours if and when we can. We had already planned to be closed Tuesday and Wednesday and this gave all of us time to get ready and try to open Thursday.

We will update our social media as soon as we know when we will be open.

Thanks and be safe.
