Update: Killeen ISD to as Scheduled on Thursday, Jan. 29 - All Killeen ISD campuses and offices will open at the normal time on , January 29, 2026. We look forward to seeing students and staff back tomorrow!
Buses will run as scheduled. Breakfast and lunch menus may be subject to change as our School Nutrition team works to use available food items on hand.
We ask all drivers to use caution while traveling, as some road conditions may still be impacted by the weather. Together, we can help keep our community safe by slowing down and staying alert.
Thank you for your patience this week as we worked to keep safety at the forefront of our decisions.

PREVIOUS UPDATE
01/27/26, 2:30 PM: Killeen ISD , Jan. 28, 2026 - Killeen ISD schools and offices remain closed Wednesday, January 28, 2026, due to continued hazardous road conditions. We are also canceling all athletic and extracurricular activities for Wednesday.
Some main roads have improved, but we still have too much ice in neighborhoods and on rural roads. Several school parking lots remain covered in ice as well. Please see the photos included in this post, taken today at several of our schools.
Our Transportation team has to report very early in the morning, and, given the current state of roads, we cannot ask our bus drivers to run routes in these conditions. We also want to keep our high school student drivers off the roads while travel remains unsafe.
We can cover Monday and Tuesday’s closures within the school calendar. We will make up Wednesday’s closure on Friday, February 13, 2026, which is a designated bad weather makeup day.
As of now, we plan to reopen on Thursday, January 29, 2026. We will continue to monitor conditions and will share an update if that plan changes.
We know this extended closure may create challenges for families. Thank you for your patience and support as we put safety first.

PREVIOUS UPDATE
01/26/26, 2:30 p.m. - Killeen ISD Closed , Jan. 27, 2026 - Out of an abundance of caution and to prioritize the safety of our students and staff, Killeen ISD will be on , January 27, 2026. All extracurricular activities are cancelled Tuesday.
Temperatures are expected to rise later Tuesday, but the morning remains a significant concern. Killeen ISD covers about 400 square miles. Even if some roads clear, many neighborhood and rural roads will likely remain icy, especially roads that have not seen much traffic since Friday. Buses and commuters would be on the road early, before ice has time to melt. We’re closing to keep students and staff off the roads during the riskiest travel hours.
As of now, we plan to reopen on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. We will continue to monitor conditions and will share an update if that plan changes.
Stay safe!
