It's sad but true that historically during Texas's cold snaps we see a major increase in chimney fires in our community as families are sometimes forced to rely on their fireplaces as a sole source of heat. Unfortunately, some of those families discover that “small” installation issues that may not pose a problem with a few fires in a normal winter quickly turn into big, hot, flaming problems after the fireplace is heavily used for days on end.
With that in mind, please do not use your fireplace if it has not recently had a thorough Level 2 inspection by a certified chimney inspector. Although most people think that chimneys just need to be swept, it is scary how many times we find wood, live electric wires, flammable insulation, and other combustible materials dangerously close to the chimney!
