The drought continues, but now it feels like a bad joke. I was really hoping the remnants of tropical storm Nicole would come visit us, but by the worst of luck it looks to be just to our east

Sure feels drier than this map indicates, I can't remember the last significant rain day we've had in our area. Hopefully we get some this weekend!

To see or report current drought impacts, please visit the Drought Impacts Toolkit, where you can find impacts from media in the Drought Impact Reporter, and from citizen scientists and other volunteer observers under Condition Monitoring Observations.

Parts of Southeast Michigan saw upwards of 11 inches of snow on Wednesday, February 2nd.  This system started off as rain before changing over to all snow.  Rain slowly changed over to snow during the early morning hours, however, the transition took a bit longer across portions of Metro Detroit....

The last few weeks have really accented where my irrigation is going (& not going). I hope the rains over the weekend help to green it ALL up. Please keep in mind - If we do not receive enough rainfall, irrigation needs to supply 1" per week to keep the turf nice & green.

I've always known it as: NEVER prune oaks in months that don't have an "R" in them (May, June, July & August), but according to this article from MSU, April isn't a good choice either.

This campaign raises awareness about oak wilt prevention guidelines: avoid wounding trees between April 15-July 15, seal accidental wounds, do not move firewood, and take prompt action to control outbreaks.

Looks like most of the snow will miss us tonight but we do have some freezing temperatures to look forward to. A hard late freeze can injure tender buds, flowers & even the lawn if it has been mowed recently. Make sure to bring any annuals you might have purchased inside for the next few nights.

The National Weather Service is your best source for complete weather forecast and weather related information on the web!

Unfortunately, this is not an April Fool's joke. Looking forward to the warmer weather this weekend.
