It’s a sad day when elected offices make decisions off of emotions and not facts!

Today was disappointing, not simply because of the outcome, but because of what I witnessed throughout this process.

The developer didn’t ignore the community’s concerns. He listened. He invested time and resources to address them. A factual water availability report was obtained. Adjustments were made to the proposal in an effort to reduce impacts and find common ground. Time after time, changes were made in hopes of creating a project that both respected neighboring property owners and aligned with the County’s planning objectives.

Yet, with every concession came another objection.

At some point, we have to ask ourselves: If every concern is addressed with facts, studies, and meaningful revisions, but the answer is still “no,” was the project ever truly being evaluated on its merits?

From my perspective, today’s decision appeared to be driven more by neighborhood opposition than by the factual evidence contained in the record. Concerns regarding water, traffic, and infrastructure were repeatedly discussed, despite studies, reports, and professional analysis that had already addressed many of those issues.

Public participation is an essential part of our democratic process, and every resident deserves the opportunity to voice their concerns. But public opinion should complement the facts, not replace them.

Our elected officials have a responsibility to evaluate the evidence before them, weigh expert testimony, consider the official record, and make decisions that are fair, consistent, and grounded in objective facts. When emotion outweighs evidence, it creates uncertainty for every property owner, business owner, investor, and resident who relies on a predictable and transparent land use process.

This post isn’t about whether someone supported or opposed this particular project. It’s about protecting the integrity of the process itself. Every applicant deserves to know that if they follow the rules, obtain the required studies, address concerns, and comply with the County’s requirements, their application will be judged on the facts presented, not simply on the volume of opposition.

I remain committed to reviewing the complete record and understanding the legal basis for today’s decision. Transparency, accountability, and fairness are not partisan ideals. They are the foundation of good government.

Our community deserves a process where facts carry the greatest weight.
