Over the years I have gotten a lot of questions about living in Upstate, specifically about making the transition from NYC to “the country.” Now that I am selling real estate in and around Kingston (the area includes Woodstock, Phoenicia, Hunter, etc.), I get a lot more questions.
People want to know about what’s available—weekend homes, fixer uppers, land. Most people are buying a home for the first time, or if not, it is the first time they are buying a “house” (rather than an apartment) so they have questions about things like septic systems, property lines, can they keep chickens, should they build something, buy new, or fix up something, etc. Then there is the whole financing process which can be quite mysterious and daunting until you have gone through it.
People also want to know about what’s involved in making a transition, full or part-time, to living in the Hudson Valley. Many people crave quiet time in Nature, a place to call their own, a less hectic pace of life, an investment, or, often, a combination of all these things, but they’re not sure if they can make it work.
I’m setting up this page to make it a little easier for people to explore the idea of buying a first or second home in the Hudson Valley. I will also do some in-person information sessions in Brooklyn and Manhattan in the months ahead. The idea is to help people get started in their search armed with some basic information. I’ll also post photos, information about the Hudson Valley, and things that make me a happy.
Your feedback and questions are welcome. And, of course, please feel free to share this page with your friends.
