HERE'S THE LATEST MAP of fall foliage in New York produced by the state Department of Economic Development - the tourism folks.

The Western Catskills are at peak, while the northern Hudson Valley is mid-way through their transformation, and the southern Hudson Valley is beginning to change. Color transition in the region as of Wednesday ranges from 80 percent in Delaware County to 20 percent in Bear Mountain State Park.

This weekend, hit up the Catskills to catch them at their prime point. Next weekend, the Shawangunks should be at peak color, with the Hudson Highlands approaching this mark. The weekend of Oct 19, the Hudson Highlands and Harriman State Park should be the places to go.
