The U.S. Navy is advancing a massive up to $30 billion multi-award construction contract program and a roughly $15 billion to $30 billion overhaul at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington. This project features a new Multi-Mission Dry Dock designed for Ford-class and Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, alongside a separate $300 million investment to prepare Naval Base Kitsap as a homeport for the USS John F. Kennedy.

Key Project Details

• Multi-Mission Dry Dock Program: The Navy launched planning for a multi-billion-dollar infrastructure effort—part of the Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program—with individual task orders ranging up to $6 billion.
• Ford-Class Upgrades: The new facility will allow the shipyard to service modern Ford-class supercarriers, which existing Cold War-era infrastructure cannot fully accommodate.
• Homeport Preparation: The Navy is investing up to $300 million in electrical grid and pier upgrades at Naval Base Kitsap-Bremerton to host the Ford-class carrier USS John F. Kennedy.
• Timeline: Contractor selection and planning are moving forward, with major construction expected to start around spring 2028.
