Kirkwood Rd. at Adams. In 1947, a standard adult cash fare to ride a streetcar operated by the St. Louis Public Service Company cost 10 cents. In addition to the standard dime fare, several discounted options and passes were available at the time: Passengers could purchase tokens in bulk to get a slightly discounted rate (usually around 4 tokens for 35 cents or 6 for 50 cents depending on the specific month), a weekly pass for students cost 50 cents and a general weekly commuter passes typically cost for $1.25

On Jan. 16, 1930, the new General Monarch fire truck for Kirkwood Fire House No. 2 was put into service. 74 years later In August of 2004 the General Monarch brand fire truck was sent to Pennsylvania for a total restoration. Having found the fire truck in 2002, abandoned on a farm in Illinois, Greg Rhomberg (Antique Warehouse and Nu-Way Concrete Forms and Rentals) and his recovery team retrieved the truck despite being in very poor condition. Not sure if the truck was even worth restoring, Greg discovered that this truck was one of the original fire engines from the Kirkwood Fire Department. After this discovery, Greg decided to pursue a restoration. The restoration took three years, but the truck has been completed and is back in St. Louis, and in better than new condition. This restoration was a complete overhaul, every nut and bolt down to the frame was removed. The truck even has a new Hercules engine. The amount of chrome on this truck is unbelievable, looking like a million bucks as it shimmers in the sunlight. The entire restoration was captured step by step, as the truck was stripped down and reassembled. More photos on Antique Warehouse website http://antiquewhs.com/2007/general/index.htm
