Mortgage Rate Update: The average 30-year fixed ticked down to 6.58% this week (-0.05 pts). Why the dip? July hiring cooled, and prior months were revised way down, which nudged bond yields lower—and mortgage rates tend to follow.
Reality check: inflation is still sticky, so don’t expect an elevator ride to 4%… but this gives customers a little more breathing room. If a move is on your 2025 to-do list, now’s a smart time to get pre-approved and be ready to pounce if rates wiggle again.
