N.C. Highway 12 on Pea Island is experiencing ocean overwash and has been damaged near the Pea Island Visitor Center, with a crack in the roadway visible in live camera footage Thursday morning.

N.C. Highway 12 is closed between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe, as of approximately 6 a.m. Thursday, according to NCDOT NC 12. Similar conditions are expected over the next several high tide cycles.
