More homes to choose from, fewer sales, and prices holding fairly steady—that’s the Greater Houston housing market in September.

Single-family home sales declined 5.7% compared with last September, while the median price remained essentially unchanged at $325,000. Active listings increased 6.3%, giving buyers more choices and making price, condition, and presentation especially important for sellers.

A rental listing with unusually low rent, beautiful photos, and a landlord who can’t meet in person should raise questions.

Before sending an application fee, deposit, or rent, verify the property and the person offering it. Never send money for a rental you haven’t seen and confirmed is legitimate.
