Morningside hosts bi-weekly gatherings through a partnership with KARM Aftercare (local homeless shelter) and Two Rivers Church. The group, which is open to all, is held in the community room and focuses on the specific challenges of our previously unhoused residents.

Today's activity centered around how to build a personal support system and discussing the characteristics of a good friend. Residents were encouraged to take the handouts home to serve as a reminder and help them obtain these important life skills! Each group, I see residents form stronger bonds and gain a greater sense of community!!!🥰

CAC of Knox County (local senior nutrition agency) has a Congregate Meal program that provides free hot meals to residents twice a week in the Morningside community room. Residents receive a wonderful balanced meal while enjoying their neighbors company. Think school cafeteria for adults!!! New relationships have been formed by those who don't normally socialize and residents even show up early just to hang out❤️

Our new partnership with the KARM Aftercare program and Two Rivers Church of Bearden is to bring a biweekly Community Gatherings event onsite. We have had 38 new residents come from KARM since September 2025 that need a program targeting their specific needs and challenges to be successful living independently. The objective is to foster and nurture a safe/healthy community within the complex and of course is open to all residents. This will be accomplished by utilizing movies, games, life skills education, arts & crafts and of course snacks! The first gathering was held yesterday and was a great success! The movie shown was called "The Butterfly Circus" which teaches the lesson that everyone has the power to change their life if they are willing to put in the effort! Excited to see what the future holds for this program and its impact on the wonderful residents of Morningside!

Morningside Gardens had a wonderful Valentine's party today serving all the residents' faves - pizza, chips, cookies and soda ... it's a celebration so it's ok! I had two of our community partners on hand to serve the food and provide great music. We also had games - including a "Strange but True" Valentine trivia sheet and three Guessing Jars - along with lots of prizes 🏆! Our resident parties are always a little chaotic but always a BLAST!!! ❤️

Our Christmas meal today was AMAZING! We served 96 residents a fabulous meal of fried chicken, green beans w/ham, corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls and sweet potato or pecan pie. Everyone's bellies were full and they were even able to take some home for later. We sang Christmas carols and one of the residents brought her guitar and entertained the crowd waiting outside. It was an amazing and uplifting time for all.

Jen Foster, a community partner that is a disability attorney and an RN donated the funds to make this happen.

OBC (Overcoming Believer's Church HELPS -having enough loving people serve) outreach ministry purchased, prepared and served the meal.
