On the island of Kauai, tourists can take part in a heartwarming program called “Shelter Dogs on Field Trips,” where visitors check a dog out of the local humane society for a day-long adventure. Run by the Kauai Humane Society, the initiative matches shelter pups with tourists who want to hike, hit the beach, or simply explore the island with a four-legged companion.

It’s more than just a cute vacation activity—it gives the dogs valuable time outside the shelter, boosts their social skills, and often helps them get adopted. For travelers, it’s a chance to give back in a meaningful way while soaking in the natural beauty of Kauai.

Inspections for debris and safety conditions are being carried out before coastal access is reopened.
🛫 Travelers should confirm flight details
Check with airlines for any flight status updates or delays affecting inter-island or mainland travel.
