Today marks two weeks since Kaua'i began recovery efforts after Hurricane Lowell. Seeing the local community come together with such strength, speed and resilience reminds us of why we are so proud to be from here and why we are so proud to call Kaua'i home. This place is special in and of itself, but its people are its heartbeat. ⁠We are Kaua'i Strong. ⁠

Now for a fact based update on the status of Kaua'i. The County of Kaua'i has issued a statement informing the public that the island is open, including hotels and local business. Visitors have been welcomed back, the lifeguards have been powering out and reopened beaches, and the Mayor has asked for people to be patient, spend locally, and to refrain from entering restricted areas that are still in great need. ⁠The County has a website kauairecovers.org where all official updates and resources are posted. ⁠
⁠
Over this period, Kaua'i will be navigating a fine balance of these two simultaneous truths- the island is both recovering and open. ⁠We can't emphasize enough how important it is to encourage those with the means, to support your favorite places- markets, restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, services that rely on foot traffic. ⁠If your favorite places are not open or accessible right now, you may be able to support them online. We are also encouraging that our followers spread the word on the assistance programs available to locals who were displaced during the storm. The other pages of this post give a review of just one program, the Realtors' Relief Foundation, which was designed to help local families get a little relief, without needing to repay for the assistance. ⁠
