There are a lot of ways to measure wealth.

Around here, some of it looks a little different.

It looks like running into people you've known for years.

It looks like cheering for kids you watched grow up.

It looks like seeing familiar faces at the grocery store, the fair, the Livestock Show, and Friday night games.

It looks like community.

The older we get, the more we realize that some of the best things in life aren't things at all.

They're people.

And we're grateful for ours.

What's one thing you love about living here?

Fun Friday real estate truth:

We don't get many calls saying: "Help! Things aren't going according to plan."

Real estate is full of moving parts.

Schedules change.

Closings get moved.

Moving trucks break down.

Life happens.

After 30 years, one thing we've learned is that the ability to solve problems matters just as much as the ability to sell houses.

Fortunately, we actually enjoy that part and we are good at it!

(Most days anyway.)

What's something that didn't go according to plan this summer but worked out anyway?

Every summer, there are a few things Randy looks forward to.

The Eastern Oregon Livestock Show is at the top of that list.

For more than 20 years, we've purchased a hog and a steer at the sale, but honestly, it's never really been about the meat.

It's about watching young people work hard toward a goal.

It's about seeing the excitement (and occasionally a few tears) when months of effort finally lead to sale day.

It's about supporting FFA and 4-H kids who are learning responsibility, work ethic, perseverance, and pride in a job well done.

And it's about catching up with the people you see there year after year.

One of the things we love most about living here is that community still matters.

And every summer, the Livestock Show is a pretty great reminder of that.

Congratulations to all of this year's exhibitors. We are proud to support you and grateful to be a small part of your journey. 💙🐄🐖

Homemade bread, carved turkey, and a secret spread that locals refuse to describe. This Oregon Mennonite market draws crowds for sandwiches so good people forget to chew.

People think real estate is showing houses and writing offers.

Sometimes it is.

And sometimes it's getting a phone call at 5:30 on a Friday evening that a seller's moving plans have fallen apart, she's frozen, and a first-time buyer is supposed to get the keys to her new home 30 minutes ago.

What happened next looked nothing like a real estate commercial.

An amazing business associate helped us track down a U-Haul at 7:30 on a Friday night.

Our son rounded up five friends and three pickups.

I learned more about driving a U-Haul than I ever expected to know.

Over the next 3½ hours, six young men, two Realtors, three U-Haul loads, eight pickup loads, and a whole lot of teamwork emptied a house and garage in the dark.

By 10:30 that night, everyone was exhausted.

The next morning I was cleaning out a refrigerator and meeting a cleaning person so a first-time homebuyer could walk into her new home.

This is what real estate looks like sometimes.

Not because it's in the contract.

Not because anyone had to.

But because people matter.

And because sometimes caring enough to go the extra mile is the difference between a transaction and truly helping someone.

To everyone who stepped in and helped make it happen—thank you. We won't forget it. 💛

Every once in a while, Randy and I will be driving somewhere around Union County and one of us will say:

"Look at this place."

Not because it's new.

Not because we've never seen it before.

But because after all these years, we're still amazed we get to live here.

We raised our family here.

We've watched clients become friends.

We've sold homes to parents and later helped their kids buy homes too.

That's one of the beautiful things about staying somewhere long enough.

The roots get deep.

And we're pretty grateful for ours.
