Cold Weather Reminders
* If you are planning to be away for more than seven (7) days, please contact our office and let us know in advance. It is also a good idea to enlist someone you trust to check on your home during your trip.
* Make sure heat is kept at a minimum of 55 degrees to avoid frozen pipes while you are both home and while you are away. In extreme temperatures it helps to leave cabinet doors to plumbing open to increase air flow to pipes.
* If applicable, now is a good time to CHANGE YOUR FURNACE AIR FILTER, which will increase efficiency of your home heating system. Furnace filters should be changed every 2-3 months.
* Test smoke alarms. Winter months bring more fire hazards, and the smoke alarm is one of your best safety features.
* Make sure that hoses are not attached to hose bibs, as freezing can cause pipes to crack and break.
*Please contact your property manager as soon as possible with any maintenance issues.
*If you are responsible for snow removal, remember to keep your sidewalks clear and ice free to avoid city ordinance violations as well as slip liability. Also, accumulated or drifted snow against the exterior of your home should be removed with at least 2 feet of clearance.
