Attention Homebuyers & Sellers! Big shakeup coming to real estate commissions in July.

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) recently reached a settlement that impacts how agents are compensated. Previously, sellers typically paid commissions for both their agent and the buyer's agent, with the amount advertised upfront.

Here's the shift: Starting July 2024 (or possibly sooner), sellers won't be obligated to offer buyer agent commissions. Buyers can still hire an agent and negotiate their fee, either paying directly or convincing the seller to cover it.

Potential ripple effects:

First-time homebuyers with lower down payments: This might pose a challenge if they can't afford an agent's fee on top of closing costs.
