COUNTY LOOKING AT REAL ESTATE TRANSFER TAX INCREASE -Supervisors indicated they wanted state lawmakers to allow counties to raise taxes on real estate sales from 55 cents for every $500 in value to $30.55 for every $500 — more than 55 times the old rate. If imposed on the sale of the average San Diego County home worth $985,000, such a rate would add $60,200 in new taxes. This would further the divide between the haves and the have nots. Who can afford that much more money to add to the purchase price of a house? Not the average buyer. To read more on how this is playing out check out my blog on the subject.

It is almost a full-time job trying to keep up with the real estate policy news coming out of the White House but as of today here is what I could find from credible news sources:

1) 50 year mortgages are off the table. Per an article on WRE News last week, "In November, Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte encouraged President Trump to float the idea for the 50-year mortgage. But after a backlash from many conservative allies and no great support from the financial services industry, Pulte bluntly announced the proposal was off the table."

2) Early this month, President Donald ‍Trump said the United States will purchase $200 billion ‌in mortgage bonds, with the goal of bringing down housing costs. Mortgage rates did respond favorably to the news, (jump to my blog for more on this...)
