Can you believe it’s already time for the holidays? This warm weather is delightful but the short days remind me that the days of summer are behind us for the year; thousands of new flower bulbs are tucked in, the bee hives are wrapped up and the old flowers have sown their seeds for next year. I’ve come to appreciate the process of the farm more than ever this year-the process that involves both flowering and dormancy, growth and rest. Our mini-farm has taught me that both parts are equally important in the cycle of growth. This place! A very personal transaction, and an excellent example of investing wisely to live beautifully! With the right partners, we invested in the right place at the right time, with the right goals. A place of respite for our families and our guests. A place of adventure, style, and retreat. I recently heard this quote on an impactful series on Youtube called “The Chosen.” We have been talking to our children about the concept of hospitality and “the warm reception of friends and strangers.” I loved this quote and how it ties into looking to others—and not just wanting gifts for ourselves—during Christmas, especially to people who literally or figuratively do not have homes. Whether it be providing a temporary home through foster care or simply looking the person in the eye who is holding a sign on a street corner, hospitality truly isn’t just displayed in our house. How are you teaching your children about what’s important at Christmas?

This weekend at a group of us gathered (socially distanced) for church/singing/prayer amidst the flower garden. We won’t vote for the same person, we don’t view the world the same, we parent and mask differently, yet in the middle all of the contrasting views simply facing the same direction felt so incredibly cathartic. It’s amazing how much our hearts need a moment of peace; a moment of reprieve from the constant battling over all the things. But one thing we all agreed upon this weekend is that we need something bigger than ourselves to put our trust in to know we are all going to be ok.
