For most of my career, I’ve been an office guy.
So anytime I get the chance to work with my hands — painting, building something simple, figuring out how to make something myself — I genuinely love it.
We needed a new leasing sign for one of our listings in Historic Old Towne Orange, and instead of ordering one from a sign fabricator, I decided to give it a shot myself.
The last custom sign I purchased was pushing close to $1,000, so I figured… why not try building one myself?
Honestly, I had a blast making this thing. Saved a bunch of money, got to tap into a different kind of craftsmanship, and it reminded me how much I enjoy being a hands-on operator — not just behind a desk, but actually creating something tangible.
There’s also something really fun about thinking of signage as part branding, part storytelling, and part creative project. It definitely got the creative juices flowing.
Real estate has always been more than transactions to me — it’s strategy, positioning, creativity, and sometimes even a little construction project mixed in.
What do you think?
