Attended a book signing last night in The East Room at The Richard Nixon Presidential Library. The book ā€œTargeted Beirutā€ is the newly release non-fiction by Jack Carr and James Scott. This book signing was different. It started with military colors and the star spangled banner.

Reading is one of my vices so read, and listen, to a tremendous amount of business related stuff. In an episode of MFM interviewed Jack Carr author of the fiction book The Termimalist. Having enjoyed the interview bought the 1st book and finished it in one sitting.

ā€œTargeted Beirutā€ is a non-fiction tomb of history. The authors during the book signing fireside chat walked the audience back to those treacherous days in 1983. They tell stories not of their own but that of the soldiers and officers in that place and during that precarious time.

The authors describe the time in the story as ā€˜the dawn of terrorism’ in the Middle East. The research they conduct is cooperating access to the Navy and Marine Corp archives corroborating authenticity. They personally conduct and use 100+ hours of soldier interviews and review 600+ letters sent home by solders to help build the story..

The authors talked about the correlation of the Beirut of today to that in 1983. They tell us the story of hearing an officer on the ground that fateful day ā€˜imploring politicians to use this catastrophic event to learn’ ā€œbefore terrorists fly a plane into a buildingā€.

Jarringly 18 years later 9/11 occurred. While I’ve not started the book you can bet your bottom dollar I will greatly enjoy reading my signed copy!

As many beautiful places we’ve visited over the last several weeks none of it compares to coming home and spending time with our little creatures and the people we love.

On our last day in EspaƱol we arrived mid afternoon in Sitges a walkable City of cobblestone streets. Sitges is ā€œtheā€ place for Barcelonian’s to escape out of the City. Similar in ways to Santa Barbara, Carmel, or maybe Martha’s Vineyard or the Hampton’s on the east coast.

A word on parking in Spain, it’s a pain in the butt and we found it nearly impossible to find parking in many of the congested areas in Spanish cities…

Lost, again while trying to find a place to park and have a drink while trying to book a hotel room for the night, we found parking near a promontory overlooking a beach alongside a jetty separating it from a marina.

Hiking down the trail towards the beach we ventured upon a sight, yeah I guess that’s an appropriate description. See that smile on my wife’s face in the first pic, well she’s smiling because we’re perched right over a fully n**e beach. One of two I’ve since learned in Sitges. And just incase you are wondering we did not venture down to the beach though in all earnestness we talked about it, just stripping down and entering the water, and maybe would have had the hour been earlier and the beach goers all clothed as we walked back by latter that afternoon. You know, when in Rome!

If ever in Barcelona Sitges should be on your list; bathing suits are optional 😊
