Aloha Friends,
I wanted to share with you that I have written and sent a letter to all Maui County Council members opposing Bill 9, and I have also posted it publicly on social media. This bill, as written, would have devastating effects on many local residents and small business owners like myself, who have worked hard, followed the law, and built our livelihoods here in good faith. I am fully committed to spreading the word and standing up for our community. This is about protecting not just my business, but the jobs, families, and economic stability that so many of us rely on.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make sure our voices are heard.
Here is my Letter:
Aloha Honorable Council Members,
My name is Cimi Morgan, and I am a lifelong Maui resident, a single mother, and a small business owner. I raised my two daughters here on Maui, and they attended King Kamehameha III Elementary, Lahaina Intermediate, and both proudly graduated from Lahainaluna High School. As a single mom, life was financially challengingâespecially with my youngest daughter being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just 22 months old, bringing medical bills far above the average familyâs burden. While working as an aide at the elementary school earning $15/hour, I dreamed of one day becoming financially secure so I could support my family without constant struggle.
I decided to study for the Real Estate Exam, became a Realtor, and within three years, I worked hard to become a licensed Broker and opened my own businessâEpic Realty. I followed every law, passed every test, completed all required continuing education annually, maintained the required insurance, and operated entirely above board. I invested in vacation rentals, building a business that now supports not only myself but also my family and employees, including my son-in-law, Jordan Keahi, several housekeepers, quality control staff, and reservationists.
