🌿 Then & Now: Lahaina’s Banyan Tree — A Symbol of Resilience 🌿
Then (2023):
In the aftermath of Maui’s deadly wildfire in early August 2023, our beloved Lahaina Banyan Tree—planted in 1873—stood scarred and charred. The flames may not have consumed its entirety, but the intense heat baked its branches and stripped it of vitality. It was a somber symbol of loss—yet it stood.
Now (2025):
Two years later, and the transformation is nothing short of miraculous. As of August 4, 2025, the Banyan Tree remains standing, rooted in hope amid the ruins of the Old Lahaina Courthouse in the background. Its branches, once bare, are now bursting with fresh green growth and new shoots—a living testament to recovery.
Restoration efforts across Lahaina are taking shape. Nearly 300 homes and businesses are currently under construction, and hundreds of building permits have been approved—marking progress in the town’s physical and emotional healing.
✨ What this means:
The Banyan Tree is a beacon of resilience—standing tall while its surroundings are rebuilt.
Its recovery reflects the resilience of Lahaina’s people, who are rebuilding homes, community spaces, and memories—one step at a time.
From scorched history to verdant hope, it embodies the journey of restoration and strength.
Let’s share, remember, and honor Lahaina’s spirit—rooted in community, brimming with revival, and branching into a brighter future.
