We spent a little over two years with the A-frame before we were finally ready to share her on There were tears and arguments, laughter and joy as we stumbled our way through our first home renovation. It was a safe haven during the few months of the pandemic and saved us financially. We are deeply in love with the old girl, but once we did it we couldn’t believe we didn’t do it sooner. We get a lot of questions from other cabin lovers and future hosts about our experience hosting through airbnb so we wanted to give you some of our best tips!
Don’t be afraid of guests ruining your home. Hands down our guests are 99% of the time the actual best. My first guests left my house soooo immaculate and clean, they even did the laundry, which was not expected, but it was such a level of respect and kindness that meant so much. We don’t expect our guests to be perfect, the last thing you want is for guests to not feel relaxed in our home. Yes, wine glasses get broken, record players are finicky (on out 3rd one over here!) cream couches are a bold move, but I love them! People are here to enjoy themselves so don’t sweat the small stuff and plan for the little things.
Don’t skimp on the beds. One of the best parts of staying in a fancy hotel is the luxurious beds, so we wanted it to feel that way in our cabin. Choose a nice quality mattress , maybe add a plush mattress topper and go with high quality sheets so your guests feel pampered and get a good night sleep while staying with you.
Periodically stay a night or two in the space and do maintenance. There are a lot of little things that go unnoticed during cleaning sessions. You need to be in the space and live in it as a guest would. What do you notice, what could be better? What needs replacing?
