The first day of spring is a month away! After a long cold winter with snow, ice, and rain, its time to give your home some TLC and prepare it for the warm weather! Here are some tips for getting you and your home ready for spring:
Overall Inspection:
Check your roof for signs of wear and tear, like shifted shingles or nails poking up. Check your siding, doors, and windows for any damaged areas during the winter. Looking indoors, check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replace batteries as needed.
Clean the Gutters:
Remove gunk from the gutters and then run a hose up to your roof so you can ensure proper drainage through the downspout. When the water runs, make sure it runs away from the home’s foundation.
Irrigation:
Turn on your irrigation system and walk your property. Avoid moisture damage to your foundation by making sure the sprinkler systems are not malfunctioning and spraying water onto your walkways or house.
Air Circulation:
Check your air conditioner. You don't want to wait for the heat to set in before you find out there is a problem. Replace all air filters. A clogged air filter hinders your HVAC system.
Clean the Windows:
Using a squeegee, soft cloth and bucket with hot water and white vinegar, clean the winter grime off your windows to let more sunshine in!
Hardscaping:
Check your driveway and walkways for signs of cracks or damage. If there are cracks, fill them with a concrete crack filler or silicone caulk.
Woodcare:
Powerwash and reseal all of your home’s wood fixtures. Check for signs of wood damage or rot so you can repair them before they become a safety hazard.
