My record of decisions regarding the fiscal condition of the school district, the curriculum, disciplinary actions, instructional practices, mental and emotional services for students and staff, and long-term planning has been, and continues to be, an open book. There are so many important issues facing schools in general, and Badger High School in particular. Thanks to you, the voters, we successfully passed a referendum to exceed revenue limits. That’s great news, but it points out the need to make difficult decisions to balance our fiscal needs with educational needs. Currently, we have a healthy fund balance as a result of strategic planning and foresight. Our debt load is the envy of most school districts, and, as a result, our Moody’s rating is Aa2, which is the highest for a district of our size. But student enrollment in the foreseeable future will continue to decline and the Board will have to make difficult decisions regarding staffing and course offerings. Thanks to you, the voters, every student has a Chrome Book, which significantly aided the transition to distance learning during the pandemic. But the transition was not smooth and not without significant consequences. The mental and emotional health of everyone in the district has been impacted, along with learning gaps which will be difficult to close.
With the resignations and hiring of a new Superintendent and Curriculum Director, this is the time when experience and knowledge of the workings of the District is critical. Please vote for me on April 5th and share this post. Thanks in advance for your help!
