At my home inspection today the seller decided to stay since my buyer didn’t come until the very end. She offered me a coffee and we sat down and chatted for a good hour together. Although I only represent the buyer’s side we still talked about where she’s going, her goals, new grandbabies she’ll be closer to and her life at that home raising her boys.

At one point she got emotional about the memories she’s leaving behind and the changing future. She cried on my shoulder as I hugged her. She told me, “You are so sweet to care for someone who’s on the opposite side of you”. I didn’t tell her then but I probably should have- we were never on opposite sides, my goal was always to find the right house for my buyers with the best terms, but without her building that house back in the 90s, making it a home through all the years, and ultimately deciding it was time for someone else to call it home, my buyer would have never had the opportunity to see it and fall in love.

Buyer’s agent or seller’s agent, I never look at it as being on the “opposite side” or needing to be “cold” to get the best deal. All my life I’ve been told I give the best hugs, I have the biggest heart and my smile can make anyone’s day a little brighter. I think that’s one of my biggest strengths as a Realtor. I have compassion, empathy and a heart that’s ready to represent you to the fullest.
