100 years ago today, Lake Lure was born. đź’™
On September 30, 1926, the Lake Lure Dam was completed—an extraordinary feat of engineering that transformed the Rocky Broad River and Hickory Nut Gorge, creating the beautiful mountain lake we know today.
The following year, the Town of Lake Lure was incorporated, beginning a story that would span generations.
For a century, the Dam has stood strong as Lake Lure grew into one of North Carolina’s most treasured destinations. And after demonstrating remarkable resilience through Hurricane Helene, this milestone feels especially meaningful.
Today, we celebrate 100 years of the Lake Lure Dam—and 100 years since the creation of Lake Lure. 🎂
