Berkshire Hathaway’s recent acquisition of Taylor Morrison, one of the nation’s largest homebuilders, caught the attention of many across the real estate industry.

To me, the biggest takeaway isn’t the transaction itself. It’s what it says about the long-term confidence major companies continue to have in housing and homeownership.

About a year ago, I had the opportunity to meet and spend some time with Berkshire Hathaway CEO Greg Abel at an industry convention. While our conversation had nothing to do with this acquisition, the recent announcement reinforces something I’ve believed throughout my career: housing remains one of the most important long-term investments in America.

When some of the most successful companies in the world continue making multi-billion-dollar investments in housing, it’s a reminder of the confidence they have in the future of homeownership and real estate.

It was a privilege to meet one of the leaders helping shape the future of American business. More importantly, it’s encouraging to see that future include a continued belief in housing, homeownership, and the long-term strength of the real estate market.
