✨ Juneteenth Reflection: Freedom, Progress, and the Right to Homeownership 🏡✊🏾
As we celebrate Juneteenth, we honor the long journey to freedom — not just from slavery, but also from the systemic barriers that followed. While June 19, 1865, marked the official end of slavery in the U.S., true freedom has been a gradual process, especially in areas like housing.
For decades after emancipation, African American families faced countless obstacles when it came to buying a home, securing a loan, or simply being treated equally in the housing market. From redlining to discriminatory lending practices, our communities were deliberately excluded from the American Dream.
It wasn’t until the Fair Housing Act of 1968 — over 100 years after Juneteenth — that it became illegal to discriminate based on race in housing and lending. This Act was a powerful step forward, but the work continues.
Today, I stand proudly as a REALTOR®, committed to helping every family — especially those who were historically left out — become homeowners and build generational wealth. Homeownership is a form of freedom too — and we all deserve a key to that door.
Let’s keep making progress. Let’s keep showing up. Let’s keep opening doors. 🗝️❤️💚💛
