Hello Spring! As the weather changes make sure and look at the following around your home.
Roof Exterior: A professional roof inspection can identify a number of problems, including missing shingles; loose nails; rusted, missing, or damaged metal flashing; chimney cracks; rot; or mold.
Roof Interior: A check of the attic can help detect cracked roof sheathing, roof sagging, venting concerns, and leaks. Also, evidence of animal f***s and damaged floors/walls can tell you if raccoons, possum, or squirrels have made your attic their winter vacation home.
Siding and Exterior Walls: Make sure wood and siding surfaces are free from holes and cracking that let moisture into a home, leading to costly wood rot.
Gutters and Downspouts: Before April and May showers, have your gutters inspected for sagging, leaks, and sections pulling away from the house. Then make sure the gutters are cleared of debris to ensure unimpeded water flow. Water not properly drained away from a structure can lead to foundation problems and exterior damage.
Foundation: Be on the lookout for new or expanded cracks in the foundation that may have been caused by frost heaves and other cold-weather conditions. A professional inspector can assess the extent of the damage and any threats to the home’s structural integrity.
Driveways and Sidewalks: Winter’s freeze-thaw cycle, as well as frequent salt applications, can wreak havoc on asphalt and concrete. Have your surfaces checked for cracks and potholes that may require repair or replacement.
Deck: Wood decks should be checked for warping, splitting, and mildew that can make them unsafe and unattractive when it’s time for spring outdoor entertaining.
Sump Pump: While it may not have seen as much action during the winter, make sure the sump pump is fully operational for the rains ahead. And the same goes for the air conditioning system which has sat dormant.
