As for me, I would be a mountain girl part-time and a Florida springs girl part-time. ⛰️💙🌊

There's just something about crystal-clear, refreshing water that I can't resist. Maybe it's because I'm a Scorpio and a water sign, but I could happily spend my days floating in a spring, lounging by the water's edge, or soaking in the view with some classic '70s and '80s rock playing in the background.

Living in Western North Carolina gives me the best of both worlds. Beautiful mountains at home and a quick escape to a clear refreshing river whenever I need a little water therapy.

With summer right around the corner, it's time to fire up the grill and gather friends and family for backyard cookouts! While burgers, hot dogs, and barbecue often steal the spotlight, no summer feast is complete without the perfect side dish to bring it all together.

What's your favorite go-to side for a summer gathering? Potato salad, baked beans, pasta salad, corn on the cob, or something else? Share your favorite in the comments!

I'd also like to introduce my husband, Chef Devin my right hand and the talented chef behind so many delicious meals in our home and at family gatherings. One of his favorite summer side dishes is Southern Solterito Salad, a fresh and flavorful dish that's perfect for warm-weather entertaining. He's sharing the recipe below so you can add a little chef-inspired flair to your next cookout.

🥗 Chef Devin's Southern Solterito Salad
Ingredients:
1 cup cooked fava beans
1/4 cup small-diced red onion
1 cup fresh corn cut from the cob
1/4 cup sliced Kalamata olives
1/4 cup diced tomato
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup queso fresco, crumbled
Fresh cilantro for garnish

Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and toss well. Top with crumbled queso fresco and garnish with fresh cilantro. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Did You Know??!!

I’ve lived in these mountains almost my entire life, and I had no idea this was the reason the Blue Ridge Mountains appear blue.

Apparently, oak and poplar trees release a natural compound called isoprene during the summer months to help protect themselves from the heat. When it mixes with sunlight and moisture in the air, it creates that beautiful blue haze we all know and love.

Pretty cool, right? I learned something new today, and I figured maybe someone else would too! 💙

Don’t be discouraged by timing. Some of the best things in life take longer to unfold, and meaningful outcomes are often built with patience, persistence, and faith in the process.

Good things have a way of finding you when you continue showing up and putting in the work.

Truthfully, this is advice I need to remind myself of too. I’m very much a “now or never” kind of person determined, stubborn, and all in once I commit to something. But sometimes the real win comes from staying the course and trusting that the hard work will pay off in the right season.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend it's a time to reflect on the courage, service, and selflessness of those who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we enjoy each day. Because of them, we have the opportunity to build homes, raise families, chase dreams, and create memories with the people we love most.

May we never forget the heroes who gave everything for this nation. Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day as we honor and remember those who served. ❤️🤍💙
