On April 15th, the locally beloved Cashiers Farmers Market in North Carolina opens back up for the 2026 season in the little mountain town of Cashiers, NC! Tucked right along the main road through town, this well-known market has been a favorite stop for locals and visitors since it first started as a small roadside tent in 1995. Today, the family-run market is filled with shelves packed with fresh produce, local cheeses, jams, jellies, baked goods, and homemade pies. As you walk around the property, friendly golden retrievers often roam the grounds and greet shoppers along the way. Out back, the take-out spot called “On The Side” serves up pulled pork, smoked chicken, and ribs that many locals say are some of the best around. Whether you’re picking up food for a picnic in the mountains or grabbing a plate of hot barbecue, this market has become a true Cashiers tradition.

A little history on the Toxaway Inn. Many of the Toxaway natives have beautiful and unique artifacts from the old inn that have been handed down through the years…my great grandmother had a claw foot tub that came out of the Toxaway Inn and I always thought it was the coolest tub!

In the early 1900s, the Toxaway Inn stood as a symbol of luxury in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Guests arrived by train from across the country to enjoy cool mountain air, fine dining, and lakeside leisure at one of the South’s grandest resorts.

A little history on Lake Toxaway and when the dam burst! My grandfather used to tell stories of playing ball in the lake bed when he was a kid…before the dam was rebuilt and the lake restored.

Lake Toxaway is a special place!✨

Did you know one of the first humans to walk in deep space — and the man who still holds the record for being the farthest from Earth — once called Lake Toxaway home?

53 years ago today — July 31, 1971 — during the Apollo 15 mission, astronaut Al Worden made history. While his crewmates drove the first lunar rover across the Moon, Al was orbiting above in complete solitude — preparing for something no one had done before.

He stepped outside the spacecraft, nearly 240,000 miles from Earth, and performed the first-ever spacewalk in deep space — floating alone between worlds to retrieve film canisters from the service module.

In that moment, he became the most isolated human being in history — the farthest any person has ever been from Earth and from any other human.
That record still stands.

And here’s the amazing part: Al Worden had a home right here on Island Point Road in Lake Toxaway.

He was a test pilot, an astronaut, a poet… and a neighbor.

This place draws remarkable people. Scientists, artists, adventurers — and some of the most visionary business minds and leaders you’ll ever meet. Legends in their own fields. Folks who’ve built companies, sparked innovation, shaped industries — and quietly call this mountain lake home.

You never know who you’re talking to at the post office, sitting next to at dinner, or waving to from across the water.

Here’s to the explorers, dreamers, and builders among us — past, present, and future.
