Ohio Home Inspectors: Licensing Update & Call to Action
The Occupational Licensing Report has been accepted by committee at the State House, and it includes critical updates to our licensing structure.
• Allow Continuing Education (CE) hours to be completed anytime during the 3-year license period—no more rigid 14-hours-per-year requirement
• Lower both the initial licensing fee and renewal fees
($250 initial to $200 and the same for renewal)
These are practical, inspector-friendly reforms. Most importantly, the committee is not proposing to eliminate the license—a huge win for consumer protection and professional standards.
We feel comfortable with these changes and grateful to see thoughtful consideration given to our field. But this is no time to be passive. Let’s stay engaged, informed, and vocal in support of a licensing framework that protects homeowners and respects the work we do.
I can share the full report with you if you would like a copy, send me a PM. Let’s keep the momentum going.
We also would like to thank The Ohio Realtors and their Legal Affairs Department for Advocating to keep our licensing and keeping conversations open with The Ohio Home Inspector Network throughout this process.
