Are the Wild headed south?

After their $394 million funding pitch to renovate St. Paul's Xcel Center got a chilly reception at the State Capitol last week, the Minnesota Wild are reportedly exploring a move to Dakota County. Plans are in the works for a state-of-the-art arena at 494 & County Road 63 (Argenta) in Inver Grove Heights—right across from the Vikings’ facility. Why? More space. Easier parking. Less congestion. The Wild's current small downtown site has big challenges, but in Dakota County, the team can build bigger and better with easy access.

To help fund a new interchange at 494/Argenta and some stadium costs, a modest $1.25 toll will be charged to vehicles passing the site on 494. Don’t worry—no need to stop at a toll booth. Overhead scanners will detect each vehicle and send a monthly bill straight to your mailbox. Hockey fans and commuters alike can chip in to make this dream a reality!

The Eagan City Council approved plans for Lennar to build 104 townhomes on 22 acres in the northeastern corner of the Thomson Reuters development. Ryan’s plans for the site also include a small number of single-family homes, industrial space, 1.1 miles of new public walking trails and 10 acres of new parkland adjacent to Wescott Station Park.

“Ryan Companies’ redevelopment plan solidifies the historic balance this site has always had in our community,” Mayor Mike Maguire said in a statement. “The inclusion of light industrial components ensures it will remain a vital part of Eagan’s property tax base, while thoughtfully preserving the natural features and character that make the surrounding neighborhoods so desirable.”
