Friday, a BIG chapter was closed.
The story started in 1999 — a story that took 27 years to write and became instrumental in the start of my real estate career.
In 1999, I was a sophomore at CSU’s School of Business. Although rent was nothing like what we were used to seeing in New York (where I’m from), my parents felt paying rent was throwing money away. So they came up with a plan: purchase a single-family home and have a few of my friends move in to help pay the mortgage. Imagine $200–$300 per bedroom covering all monthly expenses!
I began managing the property for my parents, who were still living in New York. Things went so well that two years later they bought another home on the same street… and a few years after that, another one.
By 2009, our family owned three houses on one cul-de-sac of just 10 homes.
What started as an investment was turning into a family business. We created LLCs, worked on estate planning.
Managing the properties became a full-time job, and somewhere along the way I decided to get my real estate license. That eventually led me into the sales side of the business, but investing in off-campus properties has always been my niche.
I managed the properties for many years, until about five years ago. It became harder after our move to Littleton in 2011. Add getting married in 2005, raising two children, and owning a retail business along the way, and you can understand why I’ve always worn a lot of hats!
On Friday, we officially closed this chapter.
Those properties served a greater purpose than we ever imagined. They provided my parents with income and financial comfort for many years, while giving me invaluable experience and the foundation for the career I have today.
Real estate may be much more expensive now than in 1999, but I still believe it can be a powerful long-term strategy for financial security when done right.
I’ve seen the ups and downs and experienced the rewards firsthand.
Grateful for the lessons. Grateful for the opportunity. Grateful for the journey. ❤️
Here’s to the next chapter!
