Real Estate Q&A🤔

Earnest Money is a good-faith deposit (often 1-3% of the purchase price) a homebuyer pays to show a seller they're serious about buying! This money is separate from the down payment and is held in escrow until closing. The Earnest Money will be applied to the down payment/costs if the sale goes through, but forfeited if the buyer backs out without cause. So how does this protect you? It protects the seller by compensating them for taking the home off the market, and protects the buyer by providing a pathway to get the money back if contingencies (like inspection, financing) aren't met!
