If nothing else I can always say I get to fully be myself in whatever space I’m in 🫶🏾

This was more than just a conversation but really divine experience within the essence of Black places, culturally, economically, communally, and above all INTENTIONALLY. It’s a reason I’m always yelling place keeping instead of placemaking in our spaces..

Thank you Ms. Wise for saying yes to this idea in the fly, catering it, AND connecting Nijeul to me like this. I’m forever grateful 🧡

For the last 5 years I’ve been curating the as something more than a special event. Exploring the meaning of “third places” in Black spaces from a different perspective.

More than food park truly… for 20+ dates and every so many months someone asks/says:

Why don’t you scale?
Why not make it a festival?
What’s the point of it?
Why not be like (insert other large event)?
🫠

The answers are simple but complex at the same time lol. But after 5 years it’s a good time to unpack all the pieces openly with the community and the people that support what we do..

Five years of DRBTS is really wild. Five years ago I had no idea what this would grow into or if it’d even grow fr lol. Five years ago I started this to start fill the gap professionally of Black planners and planners truly working WITH community.

I don’t take any of it for granted and I’m really grateful for all the people that I’ve worked with, paid for my expertise, and been a part of DRBTS’ growth. 💐
