Do you see the lions in the corners?

Historically, lions have long represented strength, protection, and nobility. When you see them carved into fireplace mantels especially in older homes they’re often meant to show a sense of guardianship over the home and hearth which was considered the heart of the household.

In architectural styles influenced by European design (like Victorian, Neoclassical, and Renaissance Revival), lions were also a nod to wealth and status. Incorporating them into a mantel signaled craftsmanship, sophistication, and sometimes even a connection to old world traditions where lions appeared in coats of arms and family crests.

Like today, fireplaces were central gathering places. having lions nearby symbolized strength and stability at the core of family life.

So those carved lions aren’t just beautiful details they’re a quiet statement of protection, pride, and history.

Being part of the listing process for one of the oldest homes in Lancaster, PA was such an incredible experience.

Getting the chance to stage a piece of history with so many stories within the walls truly meant a lot to me! -I’m a sucker for History, especially in my home town. -

Wishing the sellers and abby.young.home a smooth journey ahead and a quick, successful sale!

Listing Notes:
Known historically as the Musser–Reigart House, the residence dates to circa 1785 and is documented and archived in the Library of Congress, recognizing it as one of the finest surviving Georgian homes in Lancaster City. The property was owned by early Lancaster industrialist Michael Musser, followed by Adam Reigart, who served as Lancaster’s mayor during his ownership. In 1825, Revolutionary War hero General Lafayette visited the home during his celebrated farewell tour of the U.S. and addressed Lancaster citizens from an upper window of the residence. This property also has ties to a former president and vice president of the U.S. as well as a nationally known author. This is an extraordinary property, a truly rare opportunity to own one of the most historically significant homes in Lancaster with all the modern conveniences and amazing style.

There’s something powerful about walking into a space that feels layered, lived in, and quietly intentional.

When we stage a home, I intentionally blend organic materials like raw wood, stone, linen and greenery with a thoughtful mix of new and antique furniture/decor.

The contrast is where the magic happens.

Clean lined contemporary pieces bring freshness and lightness, while antiques add soul, patina, and a sense of story.

Organic decor softens a space. It adds warmth. It makes a room feel grounded rather than staged. When paired with vintage finds or heirloom-quality pieces, the result is depth … not just design.

Buyers may not consciously notice the balance, but they feel it. The space feels elevated, authentic, and inviting.

That harmony between natural elements, modern simplicity, and timeworn character is what transforms a house into a home and a stage into an experience.

It’s more than just a space to cook; it’s where families gather, conversations flow, and memories are made over shared meals. Whether it’s morning coffee, holidays, or late-night snacks šŸ˜‰, the kitchen is a hub of daily life.
