SOME DAYS IT'S HARD NOT TO FEEL FRUSTRATED.

Last week I was in Washington, D.C., meeting with members of Congress and advocating for housing on behalf of Realtors and the families we serve.
The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act passed Congress with overwhelming bipartisan support. As someone who spent time walking the halls of Congress asking our elected officials to support housing, I was encouraged. Then I learned the bill's signing has been delayed because it has become tied to other political priorities.
Today, we were also hit with another challenge here in California—AB 736, legislation that could allow local governments to dramatically increase transfer taxes on home sales. On a median-priced California home, that could mean thousands, or even tens of thousands, of dollars in additional costs when a homeowner sells.
After spending years fighting for affordable housing, property rights, and opportunities for buyers and sellers, it sometimes feels like the people we represent have become pawns in a political chess match.
I don't care which political party gets the credit.
I care about the young family trying to buy their first home.
I care about the senior who wants to downsize.
I care about the homeowner who has spent decades building equity.
I care about making housing more attainable—not more expensive.
As Realtors, we don't advocate for political parties. We advocate for property owners, future homeowners, and the communities we serve.
I hope our elected leaders—Republicans and Democrats alike—put politics aside, get the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act signed into law, and reject policies that make buying or selling a home even more expensive.
Housing shouldn't be a bargaining chip. It should be a priority.
