A lot of buyers get confused when they check their credit score on an app… then talk to a mortgage lender and see a completely different number.

But that’s actually very common.

Most consumer credit apps use what’s called a VantageScore — a scoring model designed for general credit monitoring and education.

Mortgage lenders typically use older FICO scoring models specifically built for lending decisions.

That means things like:
• credit card balances
• payment history
• collections
• overall risk profile

can impact your mortgage score differently than the score you see on your phone.

So if your app shows one score and your lender shows another, it does not always mean something is wrong.

It’s usually just two different scoring systems evaluating the same credit profile in different ways.
