We may see a severe thunderstorm watch issued for a small portion of southwest Michigan in the coming hours. Damaging winds to 60mph remain the biggest concern after 7-8pm this evening.

Nature is amazing

Remember when we were taught in science class how ice takes up more volume than liquid water? This less density/more volume combination is like freezing a full water bottle in a freezer, then taking it out and opening it up, only to have the ice try to jump through the opening in the now-open bottle. A similar process is exactly how frost quakes occur. These won't knock down your house, but sudden booms, or seconds of sustained rumbling can occur whenever a frost quake happens nearby. Depending on how shallow the water table or excess groundwater is in your location, these quakes can often be quite startling.

Keep this in mind, especially beginning Thursday night when temperatures drop off into the weekend.

Next 24 hours will be crazy. Highs will be almost 50's, winds might be as high as 50mph, up to 1in of rain today. Then, lows tonight will be as low as 20°f, with snow showers tapering off in the morning. Watch for black ice if you go out tomorrow morning, highs tomorrow will only be mid 20's. With more gusty winds tomorrow, branches might break off due to being water logged then frozen.

What a beautiful day! As of now, some of us will be wearing shorts come Wednesday and Thursday. High temps will be in the 40's!
