IT’S ALMOST TIME! Todd Island Park will be opening again at the end of April and you’re invited to the opening events! We hope you’ll join us on either Thursday or Friday, April 27 and 28, 2023, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.

Natural resource professionals, tours and educational material will be available to explain the exciting changes at the park and to celebrate all that this unique park has to offer.

In 1933, Stanley Abbott, a young landscape architect, was tasked with exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains in effort to create “a graceful road” through the area. Abbott, along with other early planners of the parkway, were devoted to building more than just a road, but an experience that would capture the beauty and diversity of the region it would traverse through.

Ninety years later... from cascading waterfalls to moss-covered bridges to panoramic views of faraway mountains, the 469-mile route celebrates the endless variety and beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. As Mr. Abbott phrased it, one of the most important things about the parkway is “the spice”, or the variety, it has to offer for all those who drive it. With every visit, there is something new to be seen or discovered!
