As Mayor, one of the things I love most about Boynton Beach is how deeply our residents care about this community and the places that make it special. The passion, advocacy, and engagement we've seen surrounding Nickel Forest (“Boynton Beach Forest”) have been inspiring, and I want to thank everyone who took the time to speak up and be involved.
Because there has been some confusion circulating, I want to make sure residents have the facts about where things stand today.
The development proposal currently being discussed is not located on City-owned property. The parcel under consideration for private development was formerly owned by the Palm Beach County Housing Authority and sold to Mizner Global, LLC, a private developer, in March 2025. That property, located near Pandora Avenue, is in unincorporated Palm Beach County. As a result, any development approvals related to that parcel fall under the authority of the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners, not the City of Boynton Beach.
For residents who wish to provide input on that proposal, the Palm Beach County Commission is the appropriate governing body to engage.
The City of Boynton Beach owns a separate, adjacent parcel along Nickels Boulevard. This is the portion of the Nickel Forest that our community rallied to protect. When approached about the possibility of selling that property, the City declined. We listened to our residents and took action in line with their feedback.
